Church Minister, Doug Gibson
Dan River Baptist Church is pastored by Reverend Douglas W. Gibson. He began his ministry here on July 1, 2004. Prior to his arrival at Dan River, he was pastor of First Baptist, Riceville, and Liberty Baptist in Pittsylvania County, New Chapel Baptist in Campbell County, and Hillcrest Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia where he served for 18 years.
Rev. Gibson has made numerous accomplishments throughout his career in the ministry. He has served as a representative to the Virginia Baptist General Board; as a State Leader in the Youth Bible Drills and Children's Bible Drills; as a Youth Consultant for the Department of Discipleship Training; and led a number of workshops and conferences at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Along with the already mentioned endeavors, the Rev. Gibson has served in numerous Associational capacities which include Advisory Board for Associational Missions; President of the Pastor's Conference; Vice Moderator; and Chairman of the Program Committee, and Finance Committee.
While residing in Suffolk, the Rev. Gibson was a member of the board of directors, and Vice Chairman for Meals on Wheels. He was also on the Suffolk Advisory Committee on Human Resources as a member of the Ruritan National Organization.
Over the years, he has received many awards and honors for which he is very grateful. He is extremely thankful for the awards presented by youth organizations. Among those awards is the All-Star Award by the 4-H Clubs of America. He was also honored as Man-of-the-Year by a local chapter.
